A fiercely independent neighborhood cinema with a single screen and a programming calendar unlike anywhere else in town. The Clinton Street Theater champions repertory and cult classics, documentaries, local premieres, and film festivals — it's a longtime home of Filmed by Bike and the Portland EcoFilm Festival — alongside its legendary weekly Rocky Horror shadowcast. Expect celluloid prints, post-film talks, and the kind of crowd that claps when the projector lights up.
Opened in 1915, the Clinton Street Theater is one of the oldest continuously operating movie houses in the United States. This single-screen cinema in Southeast Portland has weathered more than a century of changing tastes, technologies, and owners. It is perhaps best known for screening The Rocky Horror Picture Show nearly every week since 1978 — one of the longest continuous runs of the film anywhere in the world.
