About

A beloved single-screen neighborhood cinema in Sellwood-Moreland, the Moreland shows first-run films the old-fashioned way: one auditorium, one movie at a time, under a classic neon marquee on SE Milwaukie Avenue. A true Portland survivor and a cornerstone of its walkable shopping district.

The Moreland Theater opened on September 10, 1925, in the Westmoreland business district of Southeast Portland, taking its name from the surrounding Moreland area. Built as a single-screen neighborhood house seating around 675, it opened in the silent era — pairing movies with vaudeville acts — and has run continuously ever since, making it one of the city's last operating single-screen historic theaters.
