Southwest Portland (Garden Home)· Opened 2015

About

A modern Scandinavian-style cultural center in Southwest Portland with an exhibit hall, a Great Hall for events, and the Swedish café Broder Söder. Among its concerts, classes, and festivals, Nordic Northwest regularly screens films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden — classics, recent features, and themed series — usually on weeknight evenings, plus outdoor screenings in summer.

Nordia House is the cultural center of Nordic Northwest, a nonprofit founded in 1986 (as the Scandinavian Heritage Foundation) to support the Nordic language programs at Portland State University. The organization grew into a home for all things Nordic in Oregon and Southwest Washington, and in June 2015 it opened Nordia House on wooded grounds off SW Oleson Road, designed by Brian Melton of DiLoreto Architecture. The campus also includes Fogelbo, a late-1930s log home built by one of the chief carpenters of Timberline Lodge.
