Driving down Burnside today, I glanced at the marquee of the Laurelhurst. Digger is here! I don't know why, but this crazy film has caught my imagination. I've only seen the trailers but to me it looks like Dr. Strangelove meets The Big Lebowski. Tom Cruise is a polarizing figure, but he does know how to get into a character. I hope to see it this week. How about you?

Feels like fall is falling or at least getting there! Great time to see a flick in one of our great indie theaters! This is what's playing this week.

I've been away from my computer for the past several days. Hip surgery will do that to a fellow. I'm feeling better now and realized that I need to get this to your inbox or no one will see any movies this week! It's a big responsibility.

It's been hot and smoky here in Portland. Not a great time to be out and about, but seeing a movie keeps you cool. Lot's playing this week so let's get into it.

I've been away again. Went to Oakland for the Mosswood Meltdown to see Iggy Pop, Pavement, Wednesday, Toody Cole, Otoboke Beaver, Dead Milkmen, The Return of Jackie and Judy, and Bikini Kill. It was a wild time as always. I saw the Odyssey yesterday at the OMSI. Great Christopher Nolan! Really entertaining and worth seeing if you haven't already. Clearly there's no way you can make the Odyssey within the parameter of a 3 hour film, so take it for what it is - entertainment. Then read the poem.

I'm back from the holiday. How are you doing? Hope all is well. This week is a bit of the calm before the Odyssey storm. It's a time to watch a good classic playing in town. Jaws is at the Moreland. 2001 is at the Hollywood. Or you can see E.T. playing at the newly added 99W Drive In! It's the only Drive-in around. I first saw E.T. at a drive-in when it came out. I was in a neck brace for some reason. I was a bit of an accident prone child. It got a little soaked by tears. Damn that heart light!

Well the hits keep on coming and I don't mean the ones to various balls in Jackass: Best and Last! Supergirl is here to continue the new James Gunn DC Universe. If the last Superman is any indication, it should be a fun ride. Plus Krypto is back!

Well it's definitely summer! So far we've had a Star War, a Spielberg, and now a Pixar. Soon will be a super hero, and an epic (or should I say EPIC). But there are a lot of good throwbacks to see as well. Barry Lyndon (Kubrick), Paris is Burning, Dog Day Afternoon, Boogie Nights, and Boyz N The Hood. So get out there and enjoy our cinema summer!

Disclosure Day is here! Steven Spielberg loves aliens. He's been fixated on them since childhood. From an early student film to Close Encounters, ET, War of the Worlds, and Lincoln, aliens feature prominently in his filmography. Okay not Lincoln, though there's an argument to be made about what planet Daniel Day Lewis is from. I'm excited to see it. UFOs make for great cinematography, especially when Spielberg is at the helm.
