About

A nonprofit cinema and Portland landmark on NE Sandy Boulevard, beloved for adventurous repertory programming, first-run independent and documentary films, festivals, and one of the region's few 70mm projection setups.

The Hollywood Theatre opened in 1926 as a grand movie palace, its ornate Spanish Colonial Revival terra-cotta facade so distinctive that the entire surrounding Portland neighborhood took the theater's name. Saved from decline, it has been operated since 1997 by the nonprofit Film Action Oregon, which restored the building and turned it into a community-driven cinema and film-education center.
