Inspired by the real life stories of LA’s sex tracks, Black trans sex workers Sin-Dee and Alexandra (Mya Taylor) offer a glimpse of what constant hustle looks like when you’re trying to survive on the fringes. Shot on just three iphone 5s’, Sean Baker’s Tangerine captures the depth and dimension of sisterhood with a raw humor that challenges our discomfort with what society refuses to look at, yet demands access to. Recently transferred to celluloid, 35mm print offers a new vibrancy to the story in a way, that Baker says, “It was always meant to be seen.”
